Microsoft to lay off thousands staff globally amid restructuring

Microsoft is laying off thousands of workers in its sales and marketing departments... as part of a major restructuring plan.

The cuts will be less than ten percent of the company's sales force, most of which -- about 75 percent -- will affect workers outside the U.S.

Specific numbers have not been released,... but U.S. media are talking about three to four thousand.
A spokesperson for Microsoft said the move is "to align the right resources for the right customer at the right time."

Microsoft reportedly wants to expand its cloud business,... shifting away from its traditional user-based licensing of office software.
