SG50 Singapore's National Day Parade 2015
Singapore, 9 August 2015 - Foreword by Executive Committee Chairman of Singapore's National Day Parade 2015:
This year marks the 50th year of our nation’s independence, our Golden Jubilee. To celebrate this historic milestone, the National Day Parade 2015 (NDP 2015) promises to be an epic and emotive spectacle of an unprecedented scale. Using the theme of “Majulah Singapura”, NDP 2015 will serve as a timely reminder of our struggles in the early years and how we overcame them, celebrate our collective achievements, and rally Singaporeans to aspire towards the future.
The main parade will be held at the Padang, which holds a special place in our hearts. It is where it all began, starting with Singapore’s self-government in 1959 and the first National Day Parade in 1966. At the same time, the Committee will organise satellite celebration sites around the Marina Bay area to allow as many Singaporeans as possible to come together to celebrate NDP 2015.
Singaporeans can look forward to many firsts for NDP 2015. This includes a SG funpack for every Singaporean and PR household; an expanded capacity with not one but two ticketed venues at the Padang and The Float @ Marina Bay; and a weekend of celebrations organised around the broader Marina Bay area. In all, we expect that more than 200,000 Singaporeans from all over the island will congregate in the Marina Bay and Padang area to celebrate the Golden Jubilee together. This will be a celebration for Singapore, by Singaporeans.
The presence of Mr Lee Kuan Yew at NDP 2015 will surely be missed by Singaporeans alike. But the memory of him and his lifelong work to build this country will carry us through into the future as we continue to build a better home for our children and the generations to come. We encourage all Singaporeans to join us in this momentous celebration, as we gather once again at the historic Padang to mark our nation’s 50th birthday. Majulah Singapura!
