Man with pistol arrested in Hougang Ave 8
Police officers have arrested a 24-year-old man for criminal intimidation, and unlawful possession of arms in the vicinity of Hougang Ave 8.
On 19 November 2016 at about 6.55am, a 24-year-old male victim lodged a police report informing that a man had used something resembling a pistol to intimidate him when they were engaged in a dispute at a car park in the vicinity of Hougang Ave 3. The man subsequently left in a vehicle.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division immediately conducted extensive follow up investigations. The suspect was arrested within an hour of the report lodged and found to be in possession of an air pistol and its accessories, plastic pellets and a knife.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 November 2016 for various offences including Criminal Intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, and Unlawful Possession of Arms under Section 3(3) of the Arms Offences Act, Chapter 14. Upon conviction, he may be liable for life imprisonment and shall also be punished with caning of not less than 6 strokes.
The Police take a serious view of arms-related offences and would like to remind members of the public that the unlawful possession of arms in Singapore is an offence under the Arms Offences Act, Chapter 14. An “arm” is defined by the Arms Offences Act to mean “any firearm, air-gun, air-pistol, automatic gun, automatic pistol and any other kind of gun or pistol from which any shot, bullet or other missile can be discharged or noxious liquid, flame or fumes can be emitted, and any component part thereof and includes any bomb or grenade and any component part thereof.”
Anyone found guilty of committing offences under the Arms Offences Act, Chapter 14, may be punished with imprisonment, caning and even the death penalty.
